WHAT IS CAKES FOR APES?
Please join us from 1st-30th April, when helping orangutans can be a piece of cake with our global Cakes for Apes event.
During the month of April, we are offering you the fantastic opportunity, wherever you are in the world, to bake cakes to raise vital funds for the rescued orangutans currently being cared for by International Animal Rescue.
Following on from the successful events in 2018, 2019 and 2020, now is your chance to pick up your spoon and have fun! Over the past year, the coronavirus pandemic has affected our ability to fundraise so we have made some significant changes to the event, so you can get involved from the safety and comfort of your own home whilst staying happy, connected and protected.
WHY IS CAKES FOR APES SO IMPORTANT?
We care for baby orangutans that have been taken from their mothers to be illegally sold as pets and adults that have spent their entire lives in captivity, chained up or imprisoned in tiny cages. The project is an ambitious one but we are committed to rescuing and rehabilitating as many orangutans as we can and giving them a second chance to live safely in their natural environment.
The fight to save this amazing species grows more and more urgent every day. Borneo’s orangutans are in alarming decline, with researchers stating that the Bornean orangutan population has shrunk by 25% in the last decade alone.
Classified as a ‘Critically Endangered’ species, the orangutan only stands a chance of survival if people start to take the problem seriously.
At International Animal Rescue, our team specialises in rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing orangutans into protected areas of rainforest.
